Litigation Grant Application

CNIB offers litigation funding for eligible individuals wishing to address inequities and challenge discrimination through legal action. For application deadlines and Committee meeting timelines, please refer to our webpage.   
 
To apply for funding through CNIB’s Litigation Grant, please complete this form to demonstrate how your application meets our objectives and aligns with our considerations. Please note that you may save and resume your work on this form at any time.
 
We will consider litigation funding for matters that meet the below objectives and align with our considerations:
 
  • Align with CNIB’s Strategic Plan, The Way Forward;
  • Significantly impact CNIB participants and other people in Canada who are blind, Deafblind, or have low vision (i.e., inequity or human rights violations related to blindness);
  • Impact issues beyond the applicant's personal interests; and
  • Would be unlikely to proceed without CNIB's support.
Please note:
  • Even if your matter meets our objectives and aligns with our considerations, each application will be subject to a review process by CNIB, as well as a dedicated Legal Support Committee, and litigation funding is not guaranteed.
  • CNIB is not a legal service or community legal clinic, nor can it provide you with legal advice or legal representation.

Use, Collection, and Confidentiality of Information
By choosing to complete and submit this application, you acknowledge, agree, confirm, and consent to the following:
 
1.   I am 18 years of age or older or I am the parent or legal guardian of the named applicant, with legal authority to execute the application on their behalf.
2.   I have read and understand CNIB’s Disclaimer as it relates to information contained on its website.
3.   I have read and understand CNIB’s Participant Agreement which applies to all participants in programs and services provided by CNIB. I understand that a breach of this agreement is grounds for immediate removal from CNIB programs.
4.   I have read and understand CNIB’s Privacy Policy  regarding the use, collection retention and disclosure of personal information.  
5.   I understand that all personal information in this application will be regarded as confidential pursuant to CNIB’s Privacy Policy and principles set forth in the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (Canada).
6.   The information requested in this application is limited to what is necessary for CNIB staff to direct you to appropriate services and allow members of the Legal Support Committee and CNIB staff to consider your application to determine whether to grant or deny litigation funding in accordance with our considerations.  
7.   I acknowledge and consent to CNIB using my information for statistical purposes for program monitoring, evaluation and reporting purposes. I understand CNIB will use the resulting statistical information to manage, improve, and increase understanding of their program and services.  
8.  Subject to any court order or other restriction on the disclosure of information, I understand that if I receive funding through CNIB’s Litigation Grant, CNIB may publish the name, nature, outcome, and any decisions related to my legal matter. CNIB may also publish information regarding CNIB’s financial support of the matter.   
9.  I understand that I am responsible for educating myself and ensuring that I am aware of the limitation period and any other deadlines associated with my legal matter. I acknowledge that CNIB is not responsible for any missed deadlines or limitation periods. 
10. I acknowledge that CNIB is not a legal service or community legal clinic. I understand that CNIB cannot provide me with legal advice or legal representation.  
11.  I understand that if I do not receive funding through CNIB’s Litigation Grant, this does not constitute a legal opinion regarding any component of my matter, including but not limited to the merits.   
12.  I acknowledge that I may be contacted to share my participant experience to help improve service delivery and meet the emerging needs of CNIB participants
