CNIB assists individuals who are blind, Deafblind, or have low vision to advocate for themselves when they encounter barriers in society relating to sight loss. These barriers may be related to attitudes, accessing services, the built environment, guide dog access, employment, and many other types of advocacy issues.
If you’re a person who is blind or has low vision, or you’re representing someone who does, and you need help addressing an accessibility barrier, our advocacy staff may be able to help! Keep in mind that our advocacy support services are meant to give you the resources you need to take action and advocate for yourself, rather than trying to solve the issue on your behalf.
Some of the advocacy support services we provide include:
* Providing individual training and group advocacy programs to build self-advocacy skills, such as writing advocacy letters or making deputations to local government.
* Providing information to help you understand and exercise your rights.
* Providing information about how to access relevant supports and services.
* Making referrals to other CNIB programs and community organizations.
CNIB’s individual advocacy support services do not provide:
* Legal advice.
* Direct services such as transportation, housing, financial support, or counselling.
* Assistance completing government applications or forms.
* Support with issues unrelated to sight loss.
If you’re interested in receiving individual advocacy support from CNIB, please fill out the form below providing your contact information, an explanation of your advocacy issue, and the type of assistance you’re looking for. A member of CNIB’s advocacy staff in your area will reach out to you shortly to discuss your issue and ways that we can provide support.
